Ah man…what a gorgeous winter wedding at The West Mill
So this wedding was a wedding photographers dream; Gorgeous couple who let you be as creative as you want, a gorgeous venue, the west mill, with an brilliant team, awesome guests and fun all day! There was so many happy tears, huge smiles and some very questionably-care-free dance moves.
Where did you meet?
Working for Loudmouth Education and Training.
How was the proposal?!
It’s an emotional one!
Unfortunately Jodi’s Grandfather passed away a couple of months before Matt planned to propose. Matt knowing how close Jodi was to her Grandfather wanted to ensure he was still part of our marriage. Jodi’s Grandfather was an engineer and spent many years designing and building parts for canal boats and in 2006 he designed and built a bridge for Calcutt Marina in Warwickshire. Matt proposed on the bridge on the 04/09/2016. There were a lot of tears!
What was different to what you were expecting on your wedding day?
We didn’t realise how emotional the day was going to be. There were a lot of happy tears – which we are sure you have caught on camera.
What advice would you give future bride and grooms?
When people say “take 10 minutes to yourselves and catch up as you won’t see each other” sod that! Spend the whole day together! It is your day which celebrates your love for one another- we spent and experienced our day together and it was amazing! We told everyone in the speeches if you want to see us in the evening we would be on the dance floor. When we mingled in the day at the drinks reception again we did it together! We sat by ourselves for the meal this was really lovely and we spoke the whole time about the day so far (also an added bonus if you have ‘complicated families’ for a top table). Everyone praised us on this and many who had married before us said they will always regret not spending the day with their new married partner!
Any money saving tips for future bride and grooms?
DIY projects ( we painted tandems, made our timeline for the day, made our back drop and table numbers) we also bought wedding props e.g. Welcome sign bikes, candle holders from other people on sites such as preloved and wedding Facebook groups. Many people will buy things brand new and use them once so they are in perfect condition. Also don’t be afraid to buy things early – this avoided last minute expensive buys.
We also did our invites, which is not that difficult! We bought illustrations from “etsy.” Downloaded some free fonts for Word and it was sorted!
Any other suppliers/services you’d like to give a shout out?
So many people made our day amazing! Including the services and suppliers. Our venue was truly incredible and our Events Manager Anna was fabulous. We had Oh! Photobooth which was a great addition, Jack was really friendly and encouraged everyone to get involved.
We also had this pretty awesome photographer- we will be writing him a glowing review!
